The CP2 twin shares the HF204 filter with half the Yamaha range, and the same wet-clutch rule as every other bike here: JASO MA on the label, no Energy Conserving car oils.

Spark plugs

The MT-07 takes NGK LMAR8A-9, one per cylinder — confirm your year and the gap figure against the NGK part finder and your manual. The same plug fits the R7 and the R3, which keeps supply healthy. The book replacement interval is generous; the plug that actually needs attention early is one that has been drowned by repeated short cold starts.

Chain and sprockets

Final drive is a 525 chain, 108 links, on 16/43 sprockets. Per the JT application guide the MT-07 shares its chain spec with the Tracer 7; a quality X-ring in 525 pitch cut to 108 links is the direct replacement. Slack, per the manual, is checked on the side stand at the tightest point of the chain — chains do not wear evenly.

The service rhythm

Oil every 4,000 miles or six months, whichever lands first. Chain cleaned and lubed on the rhythm of your riding, not the calendar — wet commutes are worth a weekly pass. The valve check comes far later than most owners fear on this engine, which is one reason the CP2 has its reputation: the routine costs are a filter, a quart-and-a-bit of 10W-40 three times over, and chain lube.

Battery note: 2015–2024 bikes take a YTZ10S; Yamaha moved to the smaller YTZ7S for 2025. If a battery listing offers you both, the model year decides — physical size differs, and the tray only fits one.

Oil capacities are the manufacturer's with-filter-change figure, not the dry-rebuild total that circulates online. Always verify against your own owner's manual before you turn a wrench — this is educational reference, not a repair procedure.
